North American P-51 Mustang

P-51

The Mustang is arguably one of the most popular fighters of World War Two, and certainly one of the prettiest. It's excellent range allowed it to protect allied bombers all the way to Berlin and back, and its high speed enabled it to get the best of any of the Axis fighters. Mustangs also served in Korea and a large number are still flying today. It was powered by the same Rolls Royce Merlin found in the Spitfire.

Cool stuff for Mustang lovers:

P-51 Mustang is a visually stunning (if short) technical history of the P-51 Mustang. I've painted a profile of the Mustang myself, and I can assure you, Rikyu Watanabe's amazing illustrations are accurate down to the last rivet.
