Consolidated B-24 Liberator

The B-24 outperformed the B-17 in most respects, was built in greater numbers and served in more numerous combat roles during the war, but never really won the hearts and minds of the people the way the B-17 did. It flew like a truck and lacked the legendary ruggedness of the B-17. It was kinda homely, too, so the B-17 went on to a successful movie career while the B-24 retired into postwar obscurity. Actor Jimmy Stewart flew B-24's during WWII.
