Vickers Wellington

Wellington

The Wellington was one of the most popular of RAF Bomber Command aircraft, in no small part owing to its unique geodesic, or "basketweave" construction, which gave it immense structural strength and the ability to shrug off damage that would normally have shattered another aircraft. Its 'wimpy' armament made it vulnerable as a day bomber, despite its toughness, but it performed valuable service as a night bomber and antisubmarine aircraft.
